As the Vinyl and Hi-Fi sales here at 1818 Auctioneers take a break until 2025, it’s time to reflect on the past year’s auctions with Specialist Valuer Simon Norfolk…

“We are seeing more and more people chasing Vintage Hi-fi, which is really encouraging. Not only does it look fantastic in general (the Danish classic Bang and Olufsen being a prime example), but some of the pieces we have had through our saleroom simply cannot be improved on.

“Being a man in his mid-50s, I find it odd that the 1980s are now considered retro! Cassette walkmans and boom boxes (ghetto blasters) are now really sought after and still relatively reasonable to pick up.

“Vinyl sales are on the rise here, and a recent example is the Stone Roses’ debut album (embossed sleeve first press) making an eye-watering £175 – I can remember seeing hundreds of copies in HMV back in 1989 and duly following them down to the Spike Island gig a few months later.

“2025 will give us the opportunity to look back over decades of interesting music, and as a collector myself, I know that you never stop discovering new things (and old ones, of course).

“Oasis collectables are already hitting the market again in a big way with the hotly anticipated reunion gigs due next year.

“Keep listening, keep looking, keep buying and keep your eye on 1818 Auctioneers! If you have a collection to sell, please get in touch. And thanks to everyone who has supported my sales in 2024.”
