Specialist Valuer Jackie Rothwell guides us through jewellery choices to enhance a race day outfit.
“Do you enjoy dressing up for the races, whether it is at Cartmel or Ascot?
“Aswell as your best outfit you will need the right jewellery to complement your look. Usually, this will involve sourcing pieces that are understated yet beautiful to add just a touch of glamour without going all out with the glitz. To do this you need to source pieces that are timeless in style and there are many ways to do this.
“A small pair of hoop earrings or diamond set solitaire studs for a little bit of sparkle. A bracelet or bangle, whether it is Pandora, Tiffany, or a piece of modern costume jewellery, as long as the style is right it will enhance your outfit.
“If you want to make a bigger splash, choose bolder or more colourful pieces to match your outfit. This way you can make a statement by sourcing costume jewellery which works without costing a great deal of money.
“Depending on the race meet that you are attending, you may decide to theme your jewellery, such as wearing Irish jewellery to Cheltenham or Scottish jewellery to Ayr. Or jewellery from a Lake District designer such as the late Sidney Beddall of Ambleside or modern contemporary silver pieces by Joss Park of Kendal for a race meet in Cartmel.
“There are lots of ways you can personalise your race day outfit, but a great way to inexpensively source individual pieces of jewellery is to keep an eye on the jewellery offered at your local Auction House such as 1818 Auctioneers.”
