“Welcome to the third stamp and postcard auction of 2024 at 1818. There are over 140 lots in this auction with many highlights, including good ranges of GV and GVI commonwealth flat sets, including 1933 Sierra Leone Wilberforce set mint (Lot 538) and the George VI Aden Dhows mint set of 1937 (Lot 533). A beautiful single vendor collection of Davo albums for GB, Eire, and the Channel Islands with large unmounted mint collections to around 2020 (Lots 585-596). Other good single country collections include China (Lot 582) a large Isle of Man modern accumulation (Lot 572) There are plenty of other commonwealth and world collections to view and a small range of literature and philatelic accessories.
Also featured in this auction are 25+ postcard and trade card lots, which feature Sankey (Lot 501 and Lot 502), Hong Kong and Macau from the early 1900s (Lot 529), local interest for the Sedbergh and Dent areas, along with other Cumbrian and Lancashire material. A good range of transport-related cards are also noted, including signed postcards from former military pilots of WWII for the Spitfire Society and War Museum.
Finally, (Lot 644) is a fascinating pictorial and photographic account of Lawrence of Arabia (Thomas Edward Lawrence). The photos are from the Imperial War Museum Archives and show him in action in the Middle East and during World War 1. It is a wonderful lot of social history.”
