The Musical Instruments, Equipment and Collectable Vinyl Auction, which will take place on June 24th, is shaping up to be another excellent sale.
Independent valuer, Simon Norfolk, has been working with the family of Bob Beckett who sadly passed away in late 2018. Bob left an incredible legacy of music behind. He was an avid John Peel fan and his collection clearly reflects that – to say it is diverse would be an understatement.
Initially, we are offering the CDs from the collection, which number more than 1500. Simon has been busy dividing them up into lots an expect plenty of wonderful music from Peel favourites such as the Fall, Captain Beefheart, P. J Harvey and Half Man Half Biscuit.
That’s just the tip of the iceberg though, as the CDs also feature everything from Pentangle, Nick Drake and John Martyn through to Dr Feelgood, the Orb to Aphex Twin, the Velvet Underground, Frank Zappa, Can, and Kraftwerk to Lancaster’s own Punk Rock duo, the Lovely Eggs.
It appears that Bob never stopped buying music and this collection speaks volumes about the man and his wonderful taste in music. If you ever cocked an ear to Peel you’ll know what to expect. We’re looking forward to showing it to our buyers and to busy viewings on June 21st (1pm-4pm), June 22nd (10am – 1pm), and on the morning of the auction (from 8.30am). It’s definitely worth a browse and a link to the catalogue follows below.
The vinyl side of Bob’s incredible collection will make a showing later this year and covers the same territory as the CD’s.
As well as the CDs, we have some large. interesting job lots of seven-inch singles which are proving to be popular, rare vinyl albums by the Beatles, both albums by Gun on CBS, Beau’s ‘Creation’ on Dandelion, Generation Terrorists by the Manic Street Preachers, and also some nice album job lots.
The auction opens with a good selection of musical instruments and equipment.
